SISD: One of Only 24 Districts to Earn Postsecondary Distinction
The following is an excerpt from the TEA press release issued Friday, August 7:

AUSTIN – The Texas Education Agency today released the 2015 state accountability ratings for more than 1,200 school districts and charters. The ratings reveal that 94 percent of school districts and charters across Texas achieved the rating of Met Standard.

Districts and charters (except for those comprised of only one campus) that achieve a Met Standard rating are also eligible to receive a distinction designation for postsecondary readiness. The distinction takes into account factors such as graduation rates, ACT/SAT participation and performance, Career and Technical Education (CTE) graduates and dual credit course completion rates. Postsecondary readiness is the only distinction at the district level.

Only 24 school districts and charters earned this distinction for 2015.

“Earning any type of distinction under the state accountability system is commendable and should be a source of pride in that community,” said Commissioner of Education Michael Williams. “Achieving the postsecondary readiness distinction reflects extraordinary work taking place within a district or charter while affirming a strong commitment to all their students.”

To view the 2015 state accountability ratings for districts, charters and campuses (plus distinction designations earned at the campus and district level), visit the Texas Education Agency website at

SISD Receives "Exceeds Expectations" Rating On District Rating Metric
     SISD Rating
The district rating metric is a culmination of work put in by administrators, faculty, parents, and community leaders in a continued effort to ensure that our students are future ready.
This rating metric takes into account not only our districts' outstanding performance on the STAAR exam but the overall educational experience and performance of our students as well as the professional practices and preparedness of our teachers and administrators.  The metric covers six domains including Future Readiness, Fine Arts and Athletic Programs, as well as STAAR data.  Our district is rated based on 71 specific criteria areas across those domains that are based on campus and grade level appropriateness as well as district goals.  Based on all of these factors the district received an "Exceeds Expectations" rating for the 2014-2015 school year.

SISD Welcomes New Elementary School Principal
    Mrs. Sara Staley
Sunnyvale ISD’s Board of Trustees recently named Mrs. Sara Staley as the principal of Sunnyvale Elementary. Mr. Williams made the recommendation in June following an extensive selection and interview process completed by district and campus leadership.
"Mrs. Staley’s passion for elementary students, knowledge of curriculum, and desire for a collaborative culture matches the vision of the district and the top criterion identified by the elementary staff,” according to Superintendent Doug Williams.

Staley, an experienced administrator, joins SISD after serving Garland ISD in the roles of Assistant Principal and ELA Instructional Specialist. Her previous experience includes instructional leadership at the Beaver Technology Center for Math and Science and Dallas Christian School.

Staley remarks, "I am so excited to be a part of the Sunnyvale ISD community.  Sunnyvale has a reputation for strong academic, athletic, and extracurricular offerings. I am honored to serve in the role as Sunnyvale Elementary Principal as we seek to educate and support our students in becoming outstanding citizens of the 21st century."

In her first few weeks, Mrs. Staley has immersed herself into getting to know the district, campus, staff, and PTA leadership. During her first meeting with the Board of Trustees last week, she presented the Campus Improvement Plan, which includes an emphasis on strong instructional foundations and finding new ways to connect the home and school environments.

"When deciding to make a career change, I knew this would affect my whole family.  Without hesitation, my husband, also an educator, and I knew that Sunnyvale would be a perfect fit for our daughter, as well.  We have felt very welcomed and can truly see that Sunnyvale is about family," Staley said. "I look forward to meeting everyone and partnering with parents and the community to meet the needs of our students!"
