SISD NAMES NEW SHS PRINCIPAL

Sterling Sunnyvale ISD’s Board of Trustees recently named Ron Sterling, Jr. Sunnyvale High School’s new principal. Trustees approved Superintendent Doug Williams’ recommendation for Sterling’s hire at a called meeting in June.

"Ron’s experience and well-rounded background is an excellent match for the high school,” Superintendent Doug Williams said.  “His vision for our students and their future fits our overall district mission.”

Sterling, an experienced administrator with a proven track record for excellence in school leadership, joins SISD after serving as the Associate Principal of Campus Operations at Little Elm High School and was on the path to promotion for the 2014-2015 school year. Prior to that, he served as the campus’ Interim Deputy Principal. Before joining LEISD, Sterling worked as a campus administrator at John Tyler High School in Tyler, where he performed a variety of leadership and teaching roles.

“I knew about Sunnyvale and the excellence in the district, as far as academics and extracurricular activities,” Sterling said. “Sunnyvale is one of those districts that you know that if you have an opportunity to be a part of it, you take that chance because there’s nothing but positives.”

Having worked previously in a small community school, Sterling is eager to be a part of Sunnyvale’s close, tight-knit culture.

“This is ideal for my family, especially with three boys,” he continued. “To have them all in the same area with me is – well, I continue to pinch myself.”

Among the first items on Sterling’s agenda will be assessing SHS’ needs.  He plans to build on the momentum of the already successful high school and its faculty and enhance the programs that are already in place.

Maintaining strong ties to SISD parents and the community is a top priority for Sterling.

“We are in the business of customer service,” Sterling said. “It takes a village and I’m open to that. I have an open door policy and I’m big on getting to know parents and the community. I’m big on customer service. In our line of business, our students, parents and the community are our consumers.”

Mr. Sterling and his wife, Suzana have three children: Ron III, Devin and Jaylon will all attend SISD in the fall. The Sterlings are currently looking for homes in the area.

PTA LAUNCHES NEW AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
This year, the SISD PTA will assist in carrying out a new program to welcome new families to our district.  The brain child of SMS Principal Carmen Ayo, the Ambassador Program is similar to the SMS Student Mentor Program currently in place.  It is essentially a "buddy program" offering a resource to new families for questions that come up, to check in regularly by email or phone, & get together with the new family at least once perhaps at a district event, or the Sunnyvale Town Park. If you would like to be an ambassador family please contact Meagan at my.sentiments.exactly@gmail.com.
